Industry Panels

Day 1 Panel

Panel title: Where are the commercial deployments?

Date: Wednesday, November 18, 9:00-10:00 AM

Moderator:

Rajaram Balasubramanian, Tech Mahindra

Panel Members:

Christos Kolias, Orange
Ashlee Young, Huawei
Pranav Mehta, Intel
Don Clarke, CableLabs

Abstract: Until today, there are no large scale of commercial deployments of SDN and NFV within the telecom domain. What is considered as obstacles to deploy the SDN & NFV technology? What are the migration plans from legacy networks towards NFV/SDN networks? What are the interoperability issues between legacy and SDN/NFV networks?

Day 2 Panel

Panel title:  Exploring new directions in NFV and the role of research

Date: Thursday, November 19, 2015, 9:00-10:00 AM

Moderator:

Christos Kolias, Principal & Sr. Research Scientist, Orange

Panel Members:

Steven Wright, AT&T - ETSI NFV ISG Chair
Arif Selcuk Uluagac, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Florida International University
Rick McGeer, Chief Scientist, US Ignite
John Cioffi, CEO and Chairman of the Board of ASSIA

Abstract: Motivating and coordinating research initiatives and efforts for NFV can help to further advance progress in a number of critical areas for the growth and adoption of NFV. Abstraction models for services, service-chaining algorithms, service assurance, performance, security, data analytics are some of the topics identified for research. The panel will explore existing academic efforts in this space and discuss how teaching courses will need to evolve to ensure that future telecommunications engineers will have the necessary skills to build and operate networks based on software.

Day 3 Panel

Panel title:  NFV/SDN expectations for 2016-2018

Date: Friday, November 20, 2015, 9:00-10:00 AM

Moderator:

Tetsuya Nakamura, CableLabs

Panel Members:

Sylvia Ratnasamy, University of California, Berkeley
Ramki Krishnan, Dell
Dilip Krishnaswamy, IBM
Manish Singh, Techmahindra

Abstract: Assuming that NFV/SDN are deployed in 2016, what would be needed to evolve NFV/SDN?
